“My Colour World,” looks at local life experiences related to race and colour. A black history walking tour just minutes from downtown Brevard, N.C.
Discover the kinds of life experiences people may have had based on their race and the colour of their skin. Explore labels that we sometimes use to describe ourselves and how confining and restricting that can sometimes be. Fascinating stories that span segregation times through present day. We will share historical anecdotes related to segregated school experiences, work at the “old” Transylvania Tannery, the role of the black churches and the vitality of the Rosenwald community. Several community stops* along the way will give you a deeper understanding and appreciation of our vibrant town. An impactful and humanitarian experience! A must for youth and adults!
We will meet in the parking lot of the Transylvania County Library and make our journey down to historic Rosenwald. Stops along the way to include: The Bread Of Life, Sharing House, The “old” Transylvania Tannery, Mary C. Jenkins Community Center, and historic sites relevant to local African American history.
