An event every day that begins at 7:30 pm, repeating until August 18, 2019
We’ve set the stage for an inspiring summer of music at Brevard Music Center (BMC), one of this country’s premier summer music festivals and institutes!
Led by Artistic Director Keith Lockhart, the 2019 BMC summer music festival provides audiences with an exceptional array of performances by gifted young musicians and some of the most celebrated names in music — from classical superstars to pops, classical guitar and jazz legends, to acclaimed R&B and bluegrass artists — at our lakeside home in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.
IMAGINE THIS… Listening to an All Tchaikovsky opening night featuring acclaimed conductor JoAnn Falletta and violinist Chee-Yun, “a talented instrumentalist, with the kind of high-gloss tone that pulls sensuously at the listener’s ear” [New York Times]. Experiencing another powerful season finale as Maestro Lockhart leads hundreds of artists on the Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium stage in the impassioned and apocalyptic, Mahler 2. Seeing musical greats including R&B legends The Temptations and The Four Tops, “The Ambassador of the American Song Book” Michael Feinstein, and multi-GRAMMY® Award winners David Sanborn and Béla Fleck. Witnessing fully staged productions (with orchestra) of the operas Susannah, Roméo et Juliette, and Die Fledermaus. Or sharing popcorn with your loved ones during “one of the most deliriously funny, ingenious, and stylish movies ever made,” Raiders of the Lost Ark, on the big screen with live symphony.
The exquisite natural beauty of Brevard provides the perfect backdrop for an array of symphony and chamber concerts—Brahms’s Symphony No. 4, Mendelssohn’s “Italian” Symphony, and Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 2, as well as the return of The Shanghai Quartet in year two of their esteemed Beethoven Cycle and the BMC Camerata in Dvorak’s beloved Serenade for Strings.
But there’s more! Immerse yourself in our two-week Festival within a Festival as we honor the “Dean of American composers,” Aaron Copland, with symphonic and chamber works including Appalachian Spring, the Clarinet Concerto, and the Sextet, as well as BMC’s production of the acclaimed Copland and Mexico featuring music, multi-media, and film experiences curated by cultural historian Joseph Horowitz.
Bring your friends and join us lakeside, share a picnic on the lawn and under the stars, or relax in an intimate music hall. But don’t miss a moment of this incredible summer music festival that offers eighty performances and events—something for everyone.
Tickets start at $20. Group sales are available. With a valid student ID, students 18 and older may sit on the lawn free of charge.* Children 17 and under may sit on the lawn free of charge* with a paying adult. Learn more at www.brevardmusic.org.
