Thanks to market sponsor Healthy Harvest Natural Foods, free health screenings, produce sampling and recipe sampling, live music, and lots of great local vendors are all a part of the Transylvania Farmers’ Market’s Health Fair this Saturday morning, June 1st, from 8am to 12pm.
The morning’s free event includes:
• FREE Blood glucose and blood pressure screenings – Blue Ridge Health has a proud history providing universal, comprehensive medical, dental and behavioral health services in Transylvania County and greater western North Carolina. For many years, the Transylvania County Farmers Market has offered a wonderful opportunity to share these services with the community. This year, Blue Ridge Health will offer blood glucose and blood pressure screenings. They encourage the entire community to come out and support this great event to learn more about how Blue Ridge Health and other health resources in the community can help you and your loved ones. If you would like more information about the Blue Ridge Health services available in Transylvania County, call 883-5550; or visit brchs.com and facebook.com/BRCHS.
• Healthy recipe samples at the Market Info Booth.
• KIDS’ CORNER with fun activities that includes produce sampling and crafts.
• Live music by Ray Adams and Elizabeth Galloway
Ray Adams will be playing traditional old-time mountain music on fiddle. He will be joined by Elizabeth Galloway on guitar, another of our wonderful local musicians. Both Ray and Elizabeth are multi-instrumentalists and have been playing traditional music in our area for years. We are delighted to have them back at the market to play their crowd-pleasing, old-timey, mountain dance music and waltzes.
With a focus on the bounty that Transylvania County has to offer, the Market has more than 60 vendors offering fresh, locally-grown produce, meat, eggs, honey, cheeses, vinegars and mustards, pickled veggies, mushrooms, plants, herbs, cut flowers, baked goods, jams & jellies, hot breakfast items, coffee, prepared foods, and a variety of handcrafted and artisan items from local producers. Throughout the season, the Market hosts weekly music, a kids’ corner, and a variety of events.
The Transylvania Farmers Market is located in Brevard, NC, and on other weeks can be found just off East Main Street behind Comporium at the corner of Johnson and Jordan Streets. It is open on Saturdays through November from 8am to 12pm. Winter market runs from December through April from 10am to 12pm.
