ROBOTICS CAMP – ‘A ROVER’S JOURNEY’

ROBOTICS CAMP – ‘A ROVER’S JOURNEY’

(Robotics, Sensors, Artificial Intelligence (AI) – Our STEM principled – robotics camp examines basic automatons and complex rovers that explore other planets and extreme environments on Earth. Come gain an understanding of the hardware, software, and concepts that govern robotics. Campers will build their own robot to take a unique journey and collect information from their environment, just like the rovers that collect information from the moon. Campers will work in teams and compete for best in class. Hands-on learning that utilizes science, math, and engineering. Come be a part of a Rover’s Journey. CLASSROOM – A ROVER’S JOURNEY OBJECTIVES: Learn the basic components of robots and how to pull them together to make a complete design Discuss the ethical implications of building robots Explore the strategies that separate basic commands from artificial intelligence Experiment with different sensors to see what they can reveal about the world around us Pit your robot against others to see which design works best Practice the basics of coding for micro-controllers – the brains of robots OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM: Confidence & Leadership Development – outdoor team participation events Celestial Viewing – (astronomy) participate in exploring the night sky through the use of ‘research capable’ optical telescopes Recreational and Fun Activities – exploring the natural beauty of the Blue Ridge mountains. May include day trips, such as hiking and picnicking, visits to waterfalls and swimming, tubing (with professional outfitters), introduction to rock climbing & rappelling (safety always paramount), activities with other local camps, visits to special places and events, and entertainment by musicians and artists. SCHEDULE: Robotics Camp – A Rover’s Journey is available... Read More
SPACE CAMP – ‘OPERATION NEBULA’

SPACE CAMP – ‘OPERATION NEBULA’

(A good precursor to – Camp Above & Beyond) Our space camp, ‘Operation NEBULA’ is a simulated space mission that teaches leadership, teamwork, and STEM principles while exposing campers to fun and creative experiences. The camp is an exciting, immersive journey amidst our historic campus which played a critical role in the space race. We will explore a mission to Mars and to a mystery exoplanet. CLASSROOM – OPERATION NEBULA CAMP OBJECTIVES: Learn the critical components of a space mission Explore factors ranging from science objectives and physical requirements of a spacecraft to human health and safety, as well as the political and social implications of long-term missions Form teams to be responsible for one facet of a complex mission and coordinate with other teams to ensure that all teams are working to form a cohesive, successful plan Present findings and recommendations while advocating for your team’s plans to the larger group Get hands-on experience with the tools that researchers use to study space OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM: Confidence Building & Leadership Development – outdoor team participation events Celestial Viewing – participate in exploring the night sky through the use of ‘research capable’ optical telescopes Recreational and Fun Activities – exploring the natural beauty of the Blue Ridge mountains. May include day trips, such as hiking and picnicking, visits to waterfalls and swimming, tubing (with professional outfitters), introduction to rock climbing & rappelling (safety always paramount), activities with other local camps, visits to special places and events, and entertainment by musicians and artists. SCHEDULE: FIRST SESSION – Operation Nebula Mission to Mars: Two-week session – weeks 6/28 – 7/9/2020 Three-week... Read More
