On this walk, we’ll take a leisurely walk from the visitor center toward the waterfalls, discussing the unfolding of spring and taking a look at some tree buds in the early stages of opening as well as any blooming wildflowers. We will learn about the forest ecosystem as well as some of the history and management of the forest. We will also search for evidence of amphibians that are active in early spring. Hike will be a moderately strenuous 2 miles. Event will be canceled in the event of inclement weather. Sign up is required by calling Holmes Educational State Forest at 828-692-0100 or email: holmesesf.ncfs@ncagr.gov.
