How to Get the Best Waterfall Photos

Using DSLR and Mirrorless Cameras

Many photographers love using waterfalls as photo subjects. To get those classic long exposure photos:

• Use a tripod
• Set a 3-second timer delay
• Turn the ISO down to 100
• Slow down shutter speed (start at 0.4” or ⅖ a second, and slow it down further from there)
• Narrow the aperture (start between f/11-f/16)

You may need to play around with your settings based on lighting conditions. Pro tip: Look for waterfalls in shaded areas for the best long exposure conditions.

Using a Smartphone

Even if all you have is a smartphone, long exposure photos are still within reach. Here’s how to do it:

• Take a live photo 
• Try to stay as still as you can to avoid blurry photos
• Choose a long exposure afterwards
