Hike Andy Cove Trail
There are literally hundreds of miles of hiking trails in Pisgah, DuPont, and Gorges. But if you have little explorers in tow, this one is hard to beat. If you’re looking for a family-friendly hike in Pisgah National Forest, Andy Cove Trail is a fun option with just enough adventure to keep kids engaged. The short trail winds through a hardwood forest alongside a peaceful stream and includes a suspension bridge, which is often a highlight for little hikers. Along the route, kids can search for salamanders near the water, listen for birds, and take in the quiet forest setting. The trail feels shaded and cool in warmer months and open and bright in winter, making it a great year-round choice for a relaxed outing with a few memorable moments.

4
Tube the Davidson
Like Sliding Rock, many campers get to experience the Davidson River during their summer camp stay. But we guarantee you that they’ll jump at the chance to be your “guide” on this leisurely and scenic float. Tube rentals are available at the entrance to Pisgah National Forest.

3
Take the Plunge at Sliding Rock
It’s the cheapest (and chilliest) thrill on the planet. For $5 a person, take a seat on this 60-foot-long smooth granite rock and let 11,000 gallons a minute propel you down to a natural pool at the base. Your entry fee entitles you to as many slides as you want. Please note that Sliding Rock is particularly busy on weekends throughout the summer.

2
Explore O.P. Taylor’s
There’s a reason this place is known as “the coolest toy store on the planet” — because it is. Practically every toy known to kid-dom is jammed into two-and-a-half stories of wall-to-wall fun.
