Hike to Rainbow Falls

Gorges State Park

Much beloved Rainbow Falls is located in Pisgah National Forest, but it is accessed by a trail that leaves from the Grassy Ridge Parking Area in Gorges State Park. The roundtrip journey to this colorful 150-foot cascade is about 3 miles, but the trail is well maintained. If you’re feeling frisky, you can also continue up the Horsepasture River to Turtle Back Falls and Drift Falls.

Ever since they took up residence here in the 1940’s, the White Squirrels have been steadily multiplying. One of the most popular place to view Brevard’s famous frolicking denizens is the campus of Brevard College, along the school’s placid creek.

The tallest waterfalls east of the Rocky Mountains awaits your discovery. There’s ample parking (small fee) and an easy-to-get-to platform that affords great views of this towering 411-foot, multi-tiered waterfall.

If you’re a lover of classical music, there is no better place to be than the bucolic open-sided Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium on a summer evening. A mix of professionals and students compose the performing orchestras that grace the stage from June through August.

View Looking Glass Falls

This iconic waterfall is a must-see when visiting Brevard. According to experts, Looking Glass, with its lovely 60-foot cascade is the most photographed waterfall in America behind Niagara Falls.

This hike is challenging (6 ½ miles, roundtrip with about 1,700 feet of climbing), but the rewards are worth it: breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains from the slick rock at the summit.
