Annual Events Highlight Brevard’s Culture of Outdoor Adventure

An authentic outdoor culture is something that can’t be manufactured—and in Brevard, NC, the lively atmosphere created by adventure enthusiasts manifests itself in many ways. One way that these explorers like to celebrate their passion for the outdoors is through the many annual events held in and around Brevard throughout the year. Races, volunteer days, and festivals highlight the love for public lands and how people enjoy them.

  • Assault on the Carolinas – Entering its 27th year in 2026, this annual bike race is held each April—drawing riders from across the country to take on the 50k or 100k route.
  • WNC Bike Fest – The 2nd annual WNC Bike Fest will be hosted in May 2026 with guided group rides, live music, and vendors.
  • Forks of the River Fly Fishing Festival – This weekend-long festival is in it’s 5th year this March 2026. It’s a celebration of fly fishing culture with expert instruction and local gear vendors.
  • WNC Flyer – The Blue Ridge Bicycle Club hosts the 22nd annual WNC Flyer, with a variety of routes for both avid road cyclists and casual riders.
  • DuPont Forest Festival – Every September on National Public Lands Day, the DuPont Forest Festival is an event that celebrates the adventure and beauty of DuPont State Forest.
  • Forest Festival Day & Woodsmen’s Meet –This festival is an activity-filled event that commemorates the traditions of mountain living and craft at the Cradle of Forestry.
  • Smoky Mountain Relay – A 200+ mile relay race takes runners from Brevard to Bryson City each April by ay of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
  • Looking Glass 100K – Held in November, this scenic race takes runners through Pisgah National Forest around the iconic Looking Glass Rock.
  • Upper French Broad Riverfest – Hosted by Conserving Carolina, this festival takes place each June in Rosman at the headwaters of the French Broad River.
  • Pisgah Project Day – Each April, The Pisgah Conservancy hosts this large volunteer day, attracting hundreds of participants to take on projects in the forest.

The Transylvania County Tourism Development Authority is proud to honor our commitment to the outdoors by sponsoring many of these outdoor events as well as dozens of stewardship initiatives in our community, with over $800,000 in grants awarded over the last 8 years.

The Transylvania County Tourism Development Authority (TCTDA), through its Explore Brevard brand, supports a sustainable and thriving tourism economy in Transylvania County, NC. The organization contributes to the broader elements of tourism in the county through investment in the community’s natural resources and tourism infrastructure. Funding for the TCTDA is provided by a 5% occupancy tax on overnight visitors to Transylvania County accommodations.
