Brevard Music Center Summer Festival

Brevard Music Center Summer Festival

We’ve set the stage for an inspiring summer of music at Brevard Music Center (BMC), one of this country’s premier summer music festivals and institutes! Led by Artistic Director Keith Lockhart, the 2019 BMC summer music festival provides audiences with an exceptional array of performances by gifted young musicians and some of the most celebrated names in music — from classical superstars to pops, classical guitar and jazz legends, to acclaimed R&B and bluegrass artists — at our lakeside home in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. IMAGINE THIS… Listening to an All Tchaikovsky opening night featuring acclaimed conductor JoAnn Falletta and violinist Chee-Yun, “a talented instrumentalist, with the kind of high-gloss tone that pulls sensuously at the listener’s ear” [New York Times]. Experiencing another powerful season finale as Maestro Lockhart leads hundreds of artists on the Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium stage in the impassioned and apocalyptic, Mahler 2. Seeing musical greats including R&B legends The Temptations and The Four Tops, “The Ambassador of the American Song Book” Michael Feinstein, and multi-GRAMMY® Award winners David Sanborn and Béla Fleck. Witnessing fully staged productions (with orchestra) of the operas Susannah, Roméo et Juliette, and Die Fledermaus. Or sharing popcorn with your loved ones during “one of the most deliriously funny, ingenious, and stylish movies ever made,” Raiders of the Lost Ark, on the big screen with live symphony. The exquisite natural beauty of Brevard provides the perfect backdrop for an array of symphony and chamber concerts—Brahms’s Symphony No. 4, Mendelssohn’s... Read More
The Perfect Family Adventure: All Together Now

The Perfect Family Adventure: All Together Now

The Perfect Family Adventure: All Together Now There’s no shortage of fun activities for families in Transylvania County. Here’s a starter list that will get you properly oriented to all there is to see, do and experience here in the Land of Waterfalls: 5 5 Hike John Rock There are literally hundreds of miles of hiking trails in Pisgah, DuPont and Gorges. But if you only have time for one hiking sojourn, this one is hard to beat. This well-marked loop summits along the smooth granite face of John Rock and affords breathtaking views of Looking Glass Rock and the distant ridgeline of the Pisgah Range to the northwest. This five-mile hike, which starts at the Fish Hatchery in Pisgah National Forest, is considered moderate to strenuous, but the view is worth the effort. Directions and details on the John Rock hike and several others can be found here. X 4 4 Tube the Davidson Like Sliding Rock, many campers get to experience the Davidson River during their summer camp stay. But we guarantee you that they’ll jump at the chance to be your “guide” on this leisurely and scenic float. Tube rentals are available at the entrance to Pisgah National Forest. X 3 3 Take the plunge at Sliding Rock It’s the cheapest (and chilliest) thrill on the planet. For $1 a person, take a seat on this 60 foot long smooth granite rock and let 11,000 gallons a minute propel you down to a natural pool at... Read More
