Tomato Fest at the Transylvania Farmers’ Market

A new event is scheduled for this week’s Transylvania Farmers’ Market. Free and fun for the whole family, Tomato Fest will be held on Saturday, August 10, from 8am to 12pm. Taste a wide variety of tomatoes in every shape and color. Try fresh tomatoes, take home recipes that feature tomatoes, and shop for vendor products and summer produce. At the Kids Corner, children of all ages will enjoy learning about different types of tomatoes and creating a fun craft. Toes will be tappin’ with live music by Jennifer Serres and Owen Grooms. With a focus on the bounty that Transylvania County has to offer, the Market has more than 60 vendors offering fresh, locally-grown produce, meat, poultry, eggs, honey, cheeses, vinegar & mustard, fermented products, fresh juices, pickles & bbq sauces, mushrooms, plants, herbs, cut flowers, baked goods, jams & jellies, breakfast & lunch items, prepared foods, and a variety of handcrafted and artisan items from local producers. Throughout the season, the Market hosts a kids’ corner, weekly music, and events. The Transylvania Farmers Market is located in Brevard, NC, just off East Main Street behind Comporium at the corner of Johnson and Jordan Streets. It’s Local Food Fest at the Transylvania Farmers’ Market on Saturday, July 13th! That means a delicious morning with local produce & recipe samples, sampling of vendor products, free face painting and fun activities for the kids and live music by Chris Wilhelm & Friends. The morning’s events include: • Sample lots of vendor products, taste the results of healthy cooking demos, and take home recipes • For the kids: free face painting, taste & vote for your favorite veggies, and… can you guess the mystery veggies? • Live original music by Chis Wilhelm & Friends • While we enjoy the bounty of local food… let’s also make sure our neighbors have plenty of food too! The farmers’ market will be holding a food drive for Sharing House during their Local Food Fest. Please bring these shelf-stable items so that they can help keep their pantry full this summer: – Canned tuna – Soups (especially cream soups) – Canned pasta (ravioli, etc) – Canned fruit (pineapple & peaches are always a hit) – Canned vegetables & canned beans The market also runs a weekly program with Sharing House and customers can purchase eggs, fresh produce, and other foods and donate them at the Market Info Booth each Saturday. Start your White Squirrel Fest Saturday at the Farmers’ Market

The Transylvania Farmers’ Market is a great way for the whole family to kick off Saturday’s White Squirrel Festival. Stop by from 8am to 12pm to enjoy live music, activities for kids, and a wide range of vendors selling local produce and products. Kids of all ages will love doing a Scavenger Hunt. White squirrels will be hidden throughout the market and kids can see how many they can find to win a squirrely. In addition, there will be hula hoops, sidewalk chalk, and jump ropes… parents can enjoy some breakfast and coffee in our seating area while the kids play! Live music by Bradford Carson & Co. starts at 9:00 a.m. Bradford will be playing from 9-10am, JJ Carson will join him from 10-11am, and he will play the third set from 11am to 12pm with one of his Junior Appalachian Musician ensembles.
