Sycamore Cycles Swank 65

Sample some of Pisgah’s best trails in this great season closer – including the trails in back bowls of Pisgah also known as Pilot Mountain! The Sycamore Cycles Swank 65 is mountain bike racing at its most primeval, far removed from civilization and polluted air. The race begins at 2500 feet, and consists of a triad of cloverleaf shaped loops winding around Gloucester Gap in Pisgah National Forest.  Rolling over rugged mining roads, fun single track, tough climbs and hell-raising descents, the exhilarating course will test your skills and desire as you explore the devilish terrain of the Pisgah National Forest. THIS RACE IS LIMITED BY THE US FOREST SERVICE TO 200 PARTICIPANTS. Date: Sunday, November 15, 2020 Start Time: Packet pickup at 8AM. There will be a Race Meeting at the Start line at 9:50. Every racer must attend meeting. You must have your shuttled items ready by 9:45AM. Race start will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. Rest Stops/First Aid: There will be three fully-stocked rest stops on the course. The rest stops have food, Energy Drink, and H20. We have a drop system organized so you can arrange to have your personal supplies at the rest stops. First Aid will be at every rest area and the Start/Finish area. Restroom facilities are also at the Start/Finish. When will Rest Stop Items Return? Couch Potato

The Couch Potato is an annual mountain bike race with a short enough course to make it doable from ‘off the couch’. Rolling over rugged mining roads, classic Pisgah single track, cursing climbs and giggling descents, this course will test your skills and desire as you explore the intoxicating terrain of the Pisgah National Forest.  Good food, brews and a camp fire will be at the finish to comfort you after a long day in the saddle! 7th Annual White Squirrel Cycling Classic

The White Squirrel Cycling Classic is a classic fall spinner during fabulous fall leaf season. Starting and ending at the Tasty Weasel tasting room at Oskar Blues Brewery in Brevard NC! Riders bike on flat valley roads near the base of Pisgah National Forest. They’ll meander along the French Broad River before riding into Henderson County and then back to Oskar Blues. These routes will lead riders on a fully guided and supported bicycle tour of some Western North Carolina’s finest roads! Fully supported rest stops with medical assistance available and SAG wagons. Date: Saturday, October 10th, 2020 (Rain or Shine)  Time: Mandatory ride meeting at start line at 8:50am. Ride starts at 9:00am. Packet Pickup: Registration & packet pickup is Friday from 5:30- 7 pm. &. Sat. from 7-8:45 am at Oskar Blues Brewery. I.D. Required Amenities: Time clock, awesome rest stops with medical assistance available (if needed), SAG wagon, police assistance at 70% of the intersections for your safety, a well marked route, restrooms and so much more. Required Gear: All riders must wear a secure helmet at all times during the ride. Rest Stops: There are 3 rest stops on the 65 mile course, 2 rest stops on the 42 mile course, and 1 rest stop on the 27 mile course. Rest stops are stocked with H20, CLIF products and Energy Drink, bars and assorted snacks, fruits, PB&J sandwiches, and lots of encouragement from our rest stop personnel! ART IN THE PARK RAIN DATE

ART IN THE PARK RAIN DATE

This is the rain date for the September 26th, 2020 Art in the Park. If September 26th was rained out, the event will be held on this date, October 3, 2020. Art in the Park is sponsored by the Connestee Art League of Brevard. The festival was scheduled for Saturday, September 26, 2020 and is on Route 276, on the property of Brevard Elementary School. The address is 399 Greenville Hwy, Brevard, NC 28712. Art in the Park benefits arts programs for children and programs for adults in the Brevard Community. It is one of the League’s annual fundraisers. The outstanding lineup includes two-dimensional artists such as painters, illustrators and photographers, etc. We also have three-dimensional artists such as potters, woodworkers, jewelry makers, stained glass artists and many, many more. Many of the artists are also featured in local stores and galleries. Food will be available on site as well. The public is invited to come and enjoy the day, shop for original artistic creations, taste some wonderful food and join in the fun. Bring the kids, bring the grandparents, and have a day of fun. Enjoy art and nature, because so much of the art is about our beautiful surroundings here in Transylvania County. After you enjoy the fair, you can also visit local landmarks such as Pretty Place and Caesar’s Head State Park. PISGAH NIGHTS – MORE SPACE, SPIES AND SECRETS

On the Evening of October 2, 2020 from 6-8pm The Learning Center at PARI will host a follow-up to the talk and the history tour of our unique site that has been home to NASA, Department of Defense, N.C. Forest Service and presently Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute and The Learning Center at PARI. A visual slideshow and history tour will accompany the presentation. The evening will be an expansion on the previous Space, Spies and Secrets. Brad McCall who has a deep family history with the site will lead the evening with his deep insights into the campus and its history.
