Cedar Mountain Holiday Artisan Market

Cedar Mountain Holiday Artisan Market

This year marks our 4th Holiday Artisan Market at our distillery in the heart of Cedar Mountain! We are proud to feature artisans in the categories of wood, pottery, baked goods, jewelry made from all kinds of mediums (including moonshine!), painters, home decor, handmade soaps and candles, happy, crocheted creations, and MORE! This year, we are expanding to indoor and outdoor vendor booths! Our indoor booths will be at the Cedar Mountain Community Center and the outdoor booths will be at the Cedar Mountain Moonshine Distillery right across the street. Excited to be able to expand the market experience! And speaking of experiences! Every year at our holiday market, a magical winter scene is set and Santa stops by to chuckle & chat with the kids! Snap a few pictures of those sweet little smiles (or cries) and then have your little one write a letter to send to the North Pole! Like all of our on-site events, it’s free and very family friendly! Thank you for the continued support of our growing, super-talented community of artisans! Looking forward to seeing you on December... Read More

7 Easy Ways To Be Waterfall Wise

7 Easy Ways To Be Waterfall Wise

7 Easy Ways To Be Waterfall Wise As beautiful as our waterfalls are, they also represent hidden dangers. Every year, there are serious injuries and yes, sometimes even fatalities, experienced at our waterfalls. When visiting North Carolina’s Land of Waterfalls, enjoy our beautiful waterfalls, but remember they can be dangerous. Take personal responsibility and don’t take unnecessary risks. Put safety before selfies and follow our recommended safety tips to “Be Waterfall Wise”. If you do this, you will have a great time with awesome memories to share with all your friends and family. Using these safety tips and other educational efforts, the Transylvania County Tourism Development Authority works to raise awareness about the dangers of waterfalls through our sustainability committee, Transylvania Always and its “Be Waterfall Wise” program. You’ll also find helpful information, including a short educational video on our “Be Waterfall Wise” page.   Since 2016, we’ve been working with key partners including forest managers and supervisors at Pisgah National Forest, Gorges State Park, DuPont State Recreational Forest, Transylvania County EMS, Local Fire and Rescue workers/volunteers, Mission Health, and Local Law Enforcement to educate visitors about safe behavior around waterfalls. As a result, serious injuries and fatalities have declined. But even one incident is too many.   We also invite you to find out more about another important Transylvania Always initiative, “Leave It Better.” Inspired by the principles introduced by the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics, “Leave It Better” promotes six key principles that can help you be a responsible forest visitor.... Tails on The Trail

Tails on The Trail

Tails on The Trail Five Tips for Traveling with Your Favorite Four-Legged Friend Dogs make great travel and trail buddies, and in Transylvania County, we’re particularly fond of Fido and all his furry friends. But before you and your best canine buddy set off on a Brevard and Transylvania County adventure, here are a few tips to make sure that both of you have the safest and happiest experience possible: 1 1 Lead by Example. While dogs are welcome on trails and at campsites in our public lands (and at many businesses in town), it is critically important, for your dog’s safety and that of others, that he stays on leash and under control. Officials in our public lands will enforce this rule. 2 2 Mind the Water. Brevard’s plentiful water features, including its 250 waterfalls, are popular destinations for curious humans and canines. But for everyone’s safety, it’s important to keep a particular eye on your pup whenever the two of you are near the water’s edge, especially the waterfalls. Dogs are allowed in canoes and kayaks on guided trips, however, dogs are not permitted on tubes or to slide down Sliding Rock. 3 3 Pick It Up: Dogs can be great helpers, but they need our help with housekeeping. Please clean up after your dog. It is one of the best and easiest ways to take care of our towns and wilderness areas and truly leave them better. 4 4 Give Your Pooch His Own Space. While...
