Gorges State Park hosts First Day Hikes on January 1 to help start the new year with a combination of exercise and an awesome view of the beauty in western Transylvania County. The hikes are listed as moderate and those participating are encouraged to wear comfortable hiking clothes appropriate for the weather, close-toed shoes that provide traction and to bring water to drink along the trail. Friendly dogs on a leash are welcome. The first hike at 10 a.m. lasts approximately 30 minutes. The second hike begins at 2 p.m. and lasts for approximately one hour.
