5 Tips for Traveling with Your Favorite Four-Legged Friend

Dogs make great travel and trail buddies, and in Transylvania County, we’re particularly fond of Fido and all his furry friends. But before you and your best canine buddy set off on a Brevard and Transylvania County adventure, here are a few tips to make sure that both of you have the safest and happiest experience possible.

Leash Your Pup

Dogs are welcome on trails, at campsites in our public lands, and at many businesses in town. For everyone’s safety, always keep your dog leashed and under control—this rule is strictly enforced by public land officials.

Mind the Water

Brevard’s plentiful water features, including 250 waterfalls, are popular destinations for curious humans and canines. But for everyone’s safety, it’s important to keep a particular eye on your pup whenever the two of you are near the water’s edge, especially by waterfalls. Dogs are allowed in canoes and kayaks on guided trips, however, dogs are not permitted on tubes or to slide down Sliding Rock.

Pick It Up

Dogs can be great trail companions, but they need our help with housekeeping. Always clean up after your pup—it’s one of the easiest ways to care for our towns and wilderness areas and earn a nod of approval from Trashquatch!

Give Your Pooch Their Own Space

While leashes are required in the wilderness, Brevard’s 2.7-acre dog park gives your pup a safe place for play. The new park includes spaces for large and small dogs as well as walking trails, water fountains, and benches so you can chill while Fido makes new friends.
