A Colorful Way to Explore Brevard’s Culture

Brevard may be a small town, but its art scene is way bigger than you’d expect. You can’t walk more than a few steps downtown without spotting a gallery to pop into or hearing live music from somewhere down the street. But even locals sometimes overlook the colorful murals tucked around town. Whether you’re planning a visit or already live nearby, here are 10 murals we’ve spotted in and around Brevard. Scroll to the bottom of the page for a map of them all.

Mural of Loretta Mary Aiken, better known as Moms Mabley in Downtown Brevard's Clemson Plaza.

Honoring Comedy Legend Moms Mabley

Location: Clemson Plaza
Artist: Scott Nurkin

This iconic mural in Downtown Brevard’s Clemson Plaza honors Brevard-born comedian Loretta Mary Aiken—better known as Moms Mabley. She was the first woman comedian to perform at the Apollo Theater in Harlem (awesome, right?), and this massive mural makes sure her legacy is front and center for locals and visitors.

Celebrating Craftsmanship

Location: Hunters & Gatherers
Artist: UNKNOWN

Tucked down a quiet alley off Main Street, this mural celebrates American craftsmanship and the pride of things made by hand. It’s a nod to the town’s love for locally made goods and highlights the artistry that thrives in small-town USA. It’s on the side of Hunters and Gatherers, a great local shop that is also home to “the smallest bar in the USA,” so check that out while you’re there. We featured it in our top places to grab a drink in Brevard.

Beethoven Lives Mural at the intersection of Probart & Caldwell, paying tribute to Brevard Music Center.

Beethoven Lives

Location: Intersection of Probart & Caldwell
Artist: Andrea Boccanfuso / Brevard Music Center

This is one of our personal favorites. The Brevard Music Center (BMC) is a magical part of summer here, and this mural is a playful nod to it— featuring Beethoven rocking the sunglasses. You’ll find it right on the corner where you’d turn to head to a concert. Whether you’re catching an outdoor symphony or attending a festival like Mountain Song, this mural captures the fun, artistic energy of BMC perfectly.

Brevard Lumberyard mural in the Lumberyard District across from 185 King Street, near Downtown Brevard.

A Legacy of Working Roots

Location: The Lumberyard District
Artist: Andrea Boccanfuso / Brevard Music Center

This mural feels like stepping into Brevard’s past. It’s massive—like, 45 feet long—and tucked right in the heart of the Lumberyard District, across from 185 King Street. The artists, Brian and Laura Tull, painted it to honor the history of the old lumberyard that used to fuel the growth of the town. The colors and vintage-style lettering are a little weathered on purpose, which just adds to the feeling that this mural holds stories. If you haven’t spent much time in the Lumberyard lately, this is your sign to wander over – it seems like new shops or restaurants are popping up over there all the time.

Mural at The Yard Brevard, featuring vibrant colors and local flora & fauna.

Mushrooms and More at The Yard

Location: The Yard Brevard
Artist: Todd Weinkam

Just across the way from the Lumberyard Mural is this vibrant mural. It bursts with color—featuring local mushrooms, salamanders, whip-poor-wills, and more. Despite its bold palette, it’s kinda easy to miss, since it’s tucked a little ways off the road and the Estatoe Trail. Look for the kids’ play area at The Yard and the mural is on the wall behind the sand pit. The Yard, home to a cozy Airstream coffee truck and lots of outdoor seating, is a growing community hub and a great place to grab a drink (or a dessert – our favorite is their authentic Vermont Maple Creamies!) or attend one of their many events, including the Trailside Markets on Thursday evenings.  See what events they have coming up.

Estatoe Trail mural featuring two guys bonding an atom, near Downtown Brevard.

Atoms on the Estatoe Trail

Location: Raybow USA
Artist: Billy Smith

If you’re out riding the Estatoe Trail, keep an eye out near McLean Road. This tucked-away mural, of two guys bonding an atom, offers a burst of color and magic just off the main trail. It’s one of those little surprises that makes exploring Brevard by bike so worth it.

Tip: This mural is on a business’s property, so just take a look from the Estatoe Trail, Brevard’s Greenway, to see this one.

Mural at Oskar Blues Brewery, near Downtown Brevard featuring beer and music.

Beer and Music at Oskar Blues

Location: Oskar Blues Brewery
Artist: Matthieu Bessudo, also known as mcbess

This mural is a wild, whimsical piece that perfectly matches the vibe of Oskar Blues. We go there often for patio hangs, but next time you’re at the bar, take a closer look—you’ll spot cartoon characters climbing trees, riding bikes, playing music, and (of course) brewing beer. It’s colorful, chaotic, and pure Oskar Blues energy.

Postcard style mural on the side of Cedar Mountain Moonshine.

Greetings From Cedar Mountain

Location: Cedar Mountain Moonshine
Artist: Sarah Dearbough

This bold, postcard-style mural on the side of Cedar Mountain Moonshine is more than just a photo op—it’s a colorful tribute to the strength and spirit of Cedar Mountain. After the damage from Tropical Storm Helene in 2024, the community came together in a big way, and a new mural nearby says it best: “We get by with a little help from our friends.” Just 15 minutes from Downtown Brevard and right on the way to DuPont for your next waterfall hike or bike ride, it’s a must-see symbol of resilience and community. #CedarMountainStrong

The Dilly Deli in Rosman, featuring a mural of mountains and the French Broad River

A Splash of Color by the River

Location: The Dilly Deli
Artist: Hillary Frye

Just off Hwy 64 in Rosman, with the French Broad River in the background, the Dilly Deli mural is a vibrant surprise that feels like summer on a wall. Whether you’re grabbing a sandwich or just driving out toward Lake Toxaway, this mural adds a cheerful pop of art to your adventure.

A mural in Downtown Rosman, featuring fly fishing on the French Broad River.

Casting Back to the River’s Roots in Rosman

Location: Downtown Rosman
Artist: Rosman High School Art Class

In the heart of Rosman near Dabler Graphics, this mural is a love letter to the French Broad River and the fly-fishing culture that runs deep here. Featuring a detailed trout and a fly fisher mid-cast, it captures the serenity and skill of the sport. It’s a perfect backdrop for a town that thrives on its connection to the water. We’ve heard there are plans to have a new mural painted here soon.
