While there are no COVID-related restrictions or measures imposed by NC executive order for the general public, guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that all vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals wear a face covering in all indoor public spaces. Please check with Transylvania County restaurants and other businesses for current COVID-19 policies and procedures as well as any adjusted hours of operation.
Updates from Tropical Storm Fred
So that they can explore our natural resources safely and responsibly, all visitors to the public lands should stop by the respective Visitor Centers to learn the most up-to-date information about damage and danger in those areas.
- The Pisgah Ranger District experienced severe damage from the extreme weather conditions. Use of the forest is discouraged as the U.S. Forest Service works to assess damages and ensure visitor safety.
Closed developed recreation areas are as follows: Looking Glass Falls stairs, Lower Observation Deck, and Pool; Sliding Rock; Setzer Fish Hatchery and Wildlife Education Center; Wildlife Education Center Parking Lot and the first .01 miles of FSR 475C – Horse Cove Road; Wolf Ford Horse Camp; FSR 475 – Davidson River Road. Vehicles are prohibited in the following areas: Sycamore Flats Recreation Area; North End of the Art Loeb Trailhead and Little East Fork Trailhead at Daniel Boone Boy Scout Camp; Cove Creek Group Camps (Upper and Lower). The following roads are closed to vehicles, cyclists, and equestrians: FSR 475 – Davidson River Road (From Balsam Grove to Gloucester Gap); FSR 140 – Courthouse Creek Road; FSR 229 – Pilot Mountain Road. The Pisgah Ranger Station/Visitor Center is open (828) 877-3265.
- The Blue Ridge Parkway is closed from MP 411.9 where Hwy 276 connects with it to MP 469.1.
- Gorges State Park is open and there are no current restrictions, but please exercise caution around moving water. The Visitor Center is open (828) 966-9099.
- DuPont State Recreational Forest is open. Sandy Trail is closed for the foreseeable future due to extensive damage from flooding and unsafe conditions for trail users. Visitor Center personnel are available to help visitors (828) 877-6527.
Brevard/Transylvania Visitor Center
Our Visitor Center is available to help you plan your time in our area. The center is open Monday-Friday, 10 am to 4 pm; Saturday, 10 am to 3 pm; and through Sept 6, Sunday, 12 pm to 3 pm. Visitors to the center are requested to wear a mask upon entering.
