Downtown Brevard sparkles in the light of the holidays. The forests and parks have smaller crowds. Everything seems a bit more peaceful and quieter. Winter adventures are some of our favorites, and we believe you ought to be in the know about all that this season has to offer. Check out five of our favorite ways to explore Brevard, North Carolina during the season.  Get in the Spirit of the Season Downtown Brevard comes to life with a myriad of holiday celebrations throughout the month of December. The Holiday Windows Competition and Walking Tour brings downtown businesses to life with a little bit of friendly decorating competitiveness. December 7th is the annual Christmas Parade and you will want to stick around for Light Up the Night. It is a fun, festive evening of wonder, twinkling lights, live music, performances, vendors, food trucks, and Brevard’s annual tree-lighting ceremony. Women’s Backpacking Full-Day Workshop & Overnight Adventure. Be. Empowered. Outdoors. Join us for a full day backpacking class and overnight trip designed for women of all fitness levels who want to connect with nature, build confidence, and master essential backpacking skills. Whether you’re a beginner or seeking to deepen your outdoor knowledge, this workshop is the perfect opportunity to learn and explore in a supportive, all-women environment. This online platform will only let us post for Day 1 of our adventure, but the full event takes place Nov 1-3 . The weekend itinerary is as follows. Day 1 (Friday): Full-day workshop at Island Ford Adventures basecamp where you’ll get hands-on experience with the basics of backpacking from experienced instructors. Dive into practical knowledge that will prepare you for your overnight adventure. Days 2 & 3 (Saturday-Sunday): Set out on a 2-mile backpacking trip into the beautiful Pisgah National Forest. You’ll put your new skills in to practice, from setting up camp and gathering water to hanging a bear bag. The adventure ends with a sunset hike before spending the night under the stars. Waterfall Hunting Waterfalls abound throughout the county thanks to numerous tributaries that flow down from some of the highest peaks east of the Rocky Mountains. View From the Top View From The Top Transylvania County’s most notable Blue Ridge Parkway mileposts The Blue Ridge Parkway, a scenic ribbon of road that weaves through Virginia and North Carolina, has been providing drivers, cyclists, hikers, and lovers of panoramic views an unmissable destination for decades. It is called “America’s Favorite Drive,” and the 24 miles that run through Transylvania County are arguably among the most scenic. The Parkway can be easily accessed in Transylvania County two ways. The first is NC 215, along which you’ll also find two worthy stops: Forks of the River Taproom at Headwaters Outfitters and Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute. The other route is US 276 through Pisgah National Forest, which boasts iconic spots like Looking Glass Falls and Sliding Rock, as well as the birthplace of forest conservation, the Cradle of Forestry, located just four miles from the parkway. Here are a few of our favorite places on the Blue Ridge Parkway to stop, explore, relax, and take in the views. Top Hiking Trails to Explore near Brevard, NC Transylvania County is a hiker’s paradise. Fortunately, each seasons offers wonderful reasons to get out on the trail. Winter’s long range views. Spring’s wildflowers. Summer’s dense green canopy. And autumn’s spectacular color. We’ve compiled a few of our favorite hikes for your next adventure. Since these are our favorites, they also happen to be the favorites of a few other folks as well, which means they can get busy. We recommend tackling these trails in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid the crowds and enhance your enjoyment. To help you decide, we’ve broken them out by category. Some of these trails have the added benefit of taking you to some of our spectacular waterfalls. While everyone loves our famous cascades, they can also be dangerous.
