No experience is necessary as our instructor will guide you every step of the way in this basics of blacksmithing program, helping you work a piece of rough steel into a one of a kind, hand crafted knife form you can take home. After the workshop, you can enjoy a local brew on the front deck of the Earthshine Lodge overlooking Pisgah National Forest and the Blue Ridge Mountains. The 2022 Transylvania Heritage Museum exhibit, Mountain Legacies: Exploring Appalachian Culture, shows how early settlers made their way into the Appalachian Mountains and made them their home.  Families with roots in Scotland, Germany and France arrived by way of Virginia or South Carolina with few personal possessions.  Using the skills and traditions passed down from ancestors, along with diverse natural resources, they created a new lifestyle.  Displays dispel the myth of an uncultured people and reveal lives rich with customs and traditions, including herbal medicines, handicrafts and bluegrass music.  This exhibit runs through mid-October and is supported by North Carolina Humanities, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the...
