Women’s Backpacking Class and Overnight Trip

An introductory backpacking course for all ages and all fitness levels. This class is for women who want to deepen their connection to the wilderness and build their confidence in the outdoors. Learn the basics from trip planning, equipment selection, camp craft, nutrition and camp cooking, shelter and site selection, map reading, and outdoor ethics. Students are encouraged to take a hands-on approach and learn cooperatively with their classmates, sharing their experience and enthusiasm. At the end of the in-class training, you will pack your backpack, lace up your hiking boots, and put your knowledge into practice with an optional overnight backpacking trip in the forest. Learn to read and interpret a topographic map and to use a compass in order to “stay found” in the forest. This class is designed with the beginner in mind. Gentle Yoga meets on Saturdays @ 10 am, Jan 11—Feb 29th (No Feb 8th). It is designed for people of all ages, experience levels, and movement abilities. Families and seniors are welcome! Yoga can help you: • Ease Stress • Increase Flexibility, Strength & Joy You can try out a single class or attend all 7. Registration is optional. ~Please bring a Yoga Mat/Props or just a big Towel.~ The class will be taught by Cortney (Conley) Jacques, Certified Yoga Instructor: Cortney’s exposure to yoga began in the early 2000s. She took many Vinyasa flow classes with Laura Minerd. She started practicing Buti Yoga in 2015. Some fabulous women in the community contributed funds to help her get certified in 2015. She began teaching in 2015, currently at Brevard Yoga and at the Brevard Health and Racquet Club’s Yoga Studio. Cortney recently started a new endeavor and enrolled in an 8 month immersion for her 200 hour Yoga teacher training through Vira Bhava Yoga at Brevard Yoga Center. This is one of the many stepping stones is her plan to “slow down” and gain knowledge and experience in the ever expanding life and world of yoga. Look for her this winter in our 7 week series!
