Come sit a spell with Transylvania Heritage Museum as we experience the area’s unique and vibrant historical culture.

The “Mountain Legacies: Exploring Appalachian Culture” exhibit at Transylvania Heritage Museum celebrates the resilience, ingenuity, and cultural fusion of Appalachia through crafts, trade, and traditions. Demonstrations will be held at the Museum on the third Saturday of each month.

The exhibit and program series is supported by NC Humanities, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

June 21, 2025: “Threads of Time: Spinning and Dyeing with Becky Garrison”

This event, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the museum, highlights spinning with a 19th-century wheel from the Gillespie family. Linked to the exhibit’s thread-spinning and clothing displays, it explores plant fibers and Slave Garden plants. Attendees can spin thread, try their hand at crochet or knitting, or weave a pot holder.

The museum is located at 189 West Main Street in Brevard and is open every Thursday through Sunday from 12 PM to 4 PM.
