“Soldier’s Pride” is the name quilter Karen Dever gave to the the patriotic handmade quilt she has generously donated as a fund-raiser raffle for the museum. Raffle tickets are now on sale at the museum for $5.00 each or 5 for $20.00. Also, Dever’s book, Soldier’s Pride & More is for sale (a limited supply) at the museum for $20. Dever is a resident of Moorestown, N.J., and will be in Brevard June 14 at 11am to present a free program on quilting. She is a frequent speaker on quilting and has published quilt patterns in “McCalls,” “For the Love of Quilting,” and “Quilter’s Newsletter.”
Details of her June 14 event will be published in early June. The drawing for the winner of the quilt raffle will be August 6.
Dever described her book: “In the book, you will find photos of friends and family member veterans (both men & women) from WWII to the 2000’s. In addition are directions for making the blocks in this quilt as well as instructions for making other quilts using these sampler blocks (sampler means all the blocks in one quilt are different).” Asked why she is dedicated to honoring veterans, Dever said, “Because my father served in WWII and my husband served in Vietnam. It is because of their involvement, experiences, and service to our country.”
