The Veterans History Museum of the Carolinas invites local residents and visitors to a unique event in downtown Brevard on Tuesday evening, October 25. The museum’s newest addition, a series of six short films entitled “Through Their Eyes,” will premiere at the Co-Ed Cinema, located at 79 W. Main Street. Admission is free.
“A year ago, we conceived a plan to enhance our visitors’ experience using a 5-to-7 minute video in each gallery from WWI through the War on Terror which tells the story of that conflict through the eyes of those who fought and sometimes died there,” said the project’s director, Michel Robertson. Each video offers a synopsis of the conflict and its effects on Americans through narration, music, photos, video clips, and museum artifacts. “With the support of grants from NC Humanities and local partners (Lake Toxaway Charities, Pisgah Forest Rotary, and Transylvania County), the filming talents of Real Digital Productions, and a hardworking project team, our dream has become a reality,” said Robertson.
The six videos comprising “Through Their Eyes” will premiere in a 40-minute feature shown twice at Brevard’s Co-Ed Cinema at 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. “But that’s not all,” explained Robertson. “The museum will host a block party at Clemson Plaza next door to the theater from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. This time frame enables movie-goers to join the fun after 5:00 or before the 7:00 show.” The party-on-the-plaza will feature cookies and hot beverages, music from WWI through the current day by “The Dazzling Urbanites” trio, and a chance to thank our funders and community veterans, including special guests from WWII and the Korean War.
The videos seen at the Co-Ed Cinema will be incorporated into the museum’s gallery exhibits beginning in November 2022. “Through Their Eyes supports our mission to educate, honor, and preserve,” said David Morrow, President of the museum’s Board of Directors. “It inspires viewers to dig deeper into our history and recognize the sacrifices and service of our country’s veterans, and gives them a greater appreciation for the artifacts in our collection.”
The Veterans History Museum is located at 21 E. Main Street, Brevard, NC and is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesdays through Saturdays.
