It’s Local Food Fest at the Transylvania Farmers’ Market on Saturday, July 13th!
That means a delicious morning with local produce & recipe samples, sampling of vendor products,
free face painting and fun activities for the kids and live music by Chris Wilhelm & Friends.
The morning’s events include:
• Sample lots of vendor products, taste the results of healthy cooking demos, and take home recipes
• For the kids: free face painting, taste & vote for your favorite veggies, and… can you guess the mystery
veggies?
• Live original music by Chis Wilhelm & Friends
• While we enjoy the bounty of local food… let’s also make sure our neighbors have plenty of food too!
The farmers’ market will be holding a food drive for Sharing House during their Local Food Fest. Please
bring these shelf-stable items so that they can help keep their pantry full this summer:
– Canned tuna
– Soups (especially cream soups)
– Canned pasta (ravioli, etc)
– Canned fruit (pineapple & peaches are always a hit)
– Canned vegetables & canned beans
The market also runs a weekly program with Sharing House and customers can purchase eggs, fresh
produce, and other foods and donate them at the Market Info Booth each Saturday. Items are delivered
directly to the Sharing House pantry here in Brevard.
• Plus at the Cooperative Extension booth: Join Shannon Lally with the North Carolina Cooperative
Extension- Transylvania County’s Educational Booth on Healthy Habitats as she talks about Community
Volunteer Opportunities. Transylvania County is known for its pristine beauty. Our community values
the preservation of our natural resources and actively seeks out opportunities to get involved. The focus
of this booth will be to provide information on volunteer and other community engagement
opportunities surrounding environmental stewardship. Organizations like RiverLink, Hemlock
Restoration Initiative, MountainTrue, Conserving Carolina, and other organizations will be represented.
With a focus on the bounty that Transylvania County has to offer, the Market has more than 60 vendors
offering fresh, locally-grown produce, meat, poultry, eggs, honey, cheeses, vinegar & mustard,
fermented products, fresh juices, pickles & bbq sauces, mushrooms, plants, herbs, cut flowers, baked
goods, jams & jellies, breakfast & lunch items, prepared foods, and a variety of handcrafted and artisan
items from local producers. Throughout the season, the Market hosts a kids’ corner, weekly music, and
events.
The Transylvania Farmers Market is located in Brevard, NC, just off East Main Street behind
Comporium at the corner of Johnson and Jordan Streets. It is open on Saturdays through November from
