Kate Rhudy & The Boys are a newly formed trio out of Boone. Theyve coined their genre Sad River Folk music.
Rhudy is from Raleigh and has spent her first two years of college playing her fiddle for various bands. Her bandmates are Zach Smith on the bass and Ben Banick on the banjo. The three became friends at school; Zach played bass in a band Kate played fiddle in, and Kate asked Ben the first time they met, at a bluegrass jam, if he was in a band.
Alexa Rose hails from the small-town mountains of Virginia, where she developed a writing style that married her old country and folk roots with baroque pop influences. Rose is known for her unexpected melodies and flighty vocal range. She studied classical piano and voice in her early years, cultivating Americana and folk influences in her teens when she was gifted an old family guitar. At the age of 19, she released her debut album, North, which spoke to her acoustic-pop-folk influences and featured simple renditions of handmade songs on piano and guitar. Channeling artists like Gillian Welch and Joni Mitchell, Roses performances range from whiskey heartbreak tunes to upbeat, sunny waltzes.
