Prescribed Fire

Join N.C. Forest Rangers on a 3-mile guided hike through areas that were recently burned with prescribed fire at DuPont State Recreational Forest (DSRF). Participants will learn about the goals and objectives of using prescribed fire, as well as its application and effects. This hike will begin at the Aleen Steinberg Visitor Center at DSRF and conclude at the Lake Dense shelter. Following the program, participants are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the lake or take a short walk to nearby Bridal Veil Falls and Lake Julia. Participants will return to the visitor center on their own. This is a strenuous hike and participants are encouraged to bring sturdy hiking shoes, sunscreen, water, hiking poles, sunglasses and a hat.

This program is free but participants MUST RSVP to attend, call 828-692-0100 or email holmesesf.ncfs@ncagr.gov. NCEE Category II, III credits available.
