On June 9th, 2019 the Brevard Community Band under the baton of Maestro Jamie Hafner will present ‘Anvils & Brass’ at the Straus Auditorium on the Brevard Music Center campus at 3PM.
Mr . Bobby Powell will be featured trombone soloist with the Brevard Community Band performing Morceau Symphonique by Guilmant.
Bobby Powell has performed as a member of the Palmetto Concert Band and the Palmetto Posaunen. He currently plays and conducts as a member of the Blue Ridge Symphonic Brass, the Corridor Brass, the Upstate Winds Concert Band, and the Foothills Philharmonic. Performance opportunities have taken Bobby to many places including the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic, the American Bandmasters Association Convention, the Music Educators Association Conventions of South Carolina and North Carolina, the Spoleto Festival, the International Trombone Festival, and the Eastern Trombone Workshop. Bobby is the Music Education Coordinator for Musical Innovations. He is as good as he is busy.
Bobby is the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Upstate Winds Concert Band and Co-Founder and Principal Trombonist of the Corridor Brass and an active freelance trombonist.
Maestro Hafner takes the anvils by the horns when he conducts two Wagner pieces that will rattle the rafters. Know that no blacksmiths were injured in this performance. There will be a very slidey trombone section feature and selections from Rogers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific. You may recognize the ‘Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen’ theme from Gounods’ March of the Marionette and Fuciks’ Entry of the Gladiators is instantly recognizable to anyone who has ever witnessed a circus performance.
The Brevard Community Band (BCB) now in its’ nineteenth season, is a summer band of Avogadro’s Number of musicians conducted by Maestro Jamie Hafner, Director Emeritus of Education at Brevard Music Center. Band members represent a constellation of music experience ranging from high school players to retired band directors.
The BCB’c mission is to provide high level and challenging music for audiences to enjoy. The band is very active in providing scholarships, grants and mentorship for music education in Transylvania County.
Tickets for the performance may be purchased at the door and at Highland Books, 36 West Main St, Brevard for $10. Students ages 18 and younger are admitted free!
