September 8, 2016 @ 4:00 pm - 4:30 pm

We will be showing the one hour documentary film “America’s First Forest: Carl Schenck and the Asheville Experiment.”  The film tells the story of how Carl Schenck, a German forester, came to America in 1895 to manage the forests at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC.  He not only helped restore the land there, he established the country’s first forestry school and helped launch the American conservation movement.  The film is produced for the Forest History Society by Bonesteel Films.  Following the film, Executive Producer James G. Lewis will be on hand to answer questions.  There will be a SECOND SHOWING of the film at 6:30 pm.  Iced tea and cookies provided by the Friends of the Library
