The Transylvania Heritage Museum announced the 4th Annual Appalachian Folk Festival, hosted by the Transylvania County Historical Society, at the Allison-Deaver house in Pisgah Forest on Saturday, June 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The day will feature live music, artisan demonstrations, historical displays and activities for all ages. Step back in time with a guided tour of the 1815 Allison-Deaver House, the oldest frame house west of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and uncover the rich stories of mountain life.
This year’s musical lineup features The Critters — a fun, ad-hoc group blending historical and hysterical tunes with Emily Reasoner of The Pearls, Shelley Glinsky of HUG, and Carlton Burke and Dan Lazer of The Old Men of the Woods. Jennifer Armstrong, a versatile folk artist, will bring ballads and storytelling to the stage, and Rudy’s Bluegrass Revue, delivering an energetic mix of traditional and contemporary bluegrass.
Families will have access to hands-on activities for children, including crafting corn husk dolls, painting rocks, weaving small baskets, blowing bubbles, playing yarn games, shelling corn and participating in a scavenger hunt.
Parking is available in the lower end of the Walmart parking lot with the main stage set up in front of the barn. Enter the Allison-Deaver House property through the lower entrance near Taco Bell.
