Brevard Music Center Summer Festival: June – August

Brevard Music Center Summer Festival: June-August

A flock of geese wander up from a nearby pond and take a gander at the musical proceedings issuing from the stage. In a nearby tree, a songbird magically transforms a flute solo into a duet. And as darkness falls, fireflies accompany a Bach concerto with their very own light show. While there are many great concerts halls around the world, none of them quite compares to Brevard Music Center’s open-air Whittington-Pfohl auditorium.

For more than 80 years, the legendary summer music program of Brevard Music Center has trained prodigious young musicians, and paired them on stage with gifted faculty and some of the most celebrated classical talents in the world (Yo-Yo Ma, Renée Fleming and Joshua Bell, just to name a few) for seven glorious, ecstatic weeks of sublime music. Keith Lockhart guides this next generation of great musicians as the Artistic Director. Lockhart, who attended Brevard Music Center as a teenager, knows firsthand just how far a Brevard Music Center education can take a person:  today he is the conductor of both the venerable Boston Pops and BBC Concert Orchestras.

Virtually every one of the more than 80 orchestra, chamber and opera performances, taking place from mid-June to early August, is of the don’t-miss variety. For a brief overview of what you can expect and how you can buy tickets, visit brevardmusic.org.
